If it's a bad one, you move on. We have that option (to part ways with Bedard). But these kinds of individual player questions are premature. We want to get our new general manager in, we want to formulate the plan. What will our new GM think we should do not only with Erik Bedard but with everyone on the 40-man roster and in our minor-league system? 
From our point of view, he may not have the long answer (for the media) but for us he's a breath of fresh air and we're really excited to have Erik Bedard.
Where you finish one year is really irrelevant as to what your projections will be for the next year ... A team like Seattle certainly has the ability to jump right back up and be contenders when you look at an Erik Bedard, a Felix Hernandez and a Carlos Silva, who's obviously going to throw the ball much better than he has this year.
It's funny because people were saying Seattle was going to win the division ... That's what was said. Getting (Erik) Bedard and having the King - what's his first name? - King Felix (Hernandez) - off those things people were picking them to win the division.
The map is incomplete ... Seattle changed their pitchers. That just happened about an hour ago I think. [Erik] Bedard isn't going to pitch. Cora plays tonight, Lowrie plays [Saturday]. That's easy. You can only go as far as you know the starting pitching of your opponent. But even that said, I'll write ands, ors and ifs down all the time. I always do that.
They had their guys ... They got [Erik] Bedard and [Carlos] Silva in the offseason so I was the odd man out. It's totally understandable.
Open with Felix and then [Jarrod Washburn] or [Carlos] Silva likely, and then [Erik] Bedard the fourth day and likely Batista the fifth day ... I could see a scenario where Batista would be in there sooner than that. We are hopeful of getting all of them back. I think it would be fun to go out and see this club with the five starters we planned on. ... I think we could make things more interesting in the second half. [We] haven't been at full strength all year.
unless there is a miraculous development, I don't think we will start [Erik] Bedard before the All-Star break.
We figure we'll use three or four pitchers, then see how we set up for Wednesday. The problem came when Felix Hernandez sprained an ankle, and he's still not ready to pitch. R.A. Dickey pitched Monday, Erik Bedard went Sunday and Miguel Batista isn't available. It's not a big deal, really, except to me ... To me, getting a start is special, a chance to show what I can do in that role. Who knows, if I do well I might get another shot.
