The next day, the cops came to my first-grade class to interview me, to see if I had been with my dad. My father’s sister, Aunt Minnie, taught at the school. She heard about the cops coming and went straight to my classroom to break it up, so I didn’t have to talk.

Actually, when I really think about it, it felt a bit like family. That was an incredible time. We did a lot of shit work, but it was really wonderful to have a great pool of actors and a great pool of directors and a great pool of producers at Warner Bros. There was everyone from Errol Flynn to Bette Davis to Edward G. Robinson.
