I’m telling the TFG to not lose this opportunity; they can defeat al-Shabaab without Ethiopia and Kenya. Sheikh Sharif was the Islamic Courts leader who fought against Ethiopia and the people were supporting him, so how he can persuade them that Ethiopia are helping Somalia?
The time of Al-Shabaab in Somalia is over, since they lost the popularity, and 80% of Somalis are supporting the TFG, but if the TFG do not warn Ethiopia and Kenya, without argument the civilians will support al-Shabaab, since they believe that Ethiopia is a greater enemy to Somali people than al-Shabaa...
made it clear that the ENDF [Ethiopian National Defense Force] will continue its objectives of neutralizing extremist elements and HVI/HVT, and that Ethiopia welcomes information from the USG
That effort was not universally successful and led, in fact, to the rise of al-Shabab after [Ethiopia] pulled out
But with Ethiopia and Kenya coming to fight al Shabab, I don't think it's good for the interest of Somalis. They have their own agendas ... This is taking us back to where we were in 2007, when al Shabab enjoyed more support from the population.
I have never supported al-Shabaab, but the main purpose is to fight Ethiopian troops because I used to be a fighter of the Islamic Courts Union (the regime Ethiopia ousted)
Ethiopia in the past has done its job and came out as per its plan - Al-Shabaab knows what Ethiopia can do, so that doesn't worry us at all.
Al Shabaab call for holy war, but they start running when they hear Ethiopia
Ethiopia has the right to fight against al-Shabaab because they are endangering the security of their country
It's not only Ethiopia that's interested in crushing al-Shabab, it's in the interest of the IGAD countries, the African countries, even the international community to get rid of al-Shabab, which is actually quite a menace to the region
Ethiopia's terrorism charges against journalists critical of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's government are becoming vague and ludicrous ... The authorities have failed to provide any hard evidence and should drop these charges immediately.
