I do think that the F.D.I.C. and Sheila Bair have had the sense of urgency about the problem that I want to see ... And so, you know, we haven’t made any official statements on this yet, but I think generally they’ve been on the case with the resources that they have to try to shore up the system. 
why are the Fed, FDIC and Treasury Department so desperate to drive down interest rates to zero, buy troubled assets, ruin what used to be an efficient debt market in Mortgage Backed Securities, Corporate Bonds and Preferred Stock?
The FDIC is not in a position to run an operating company to manage these assets ... Clearly putting the assets into the hands of focused quality managers is a smart move. What seems to be happening is the FDIC is attracting entities that are willing to invest and now they are retaining an interest perhaps in investments where assets are particularly undervalued.

The insured depositors are protected. The uninsured depositors, I don't know this for a fact, but in all likelihood will be protected too, because I would imagine the FDIC will handle this much like they handled WaMu last week ... Being a headquarter city conveys a certain sense of prestige in the marketplace. We've been on the winning end of countless numbers of banking transactions over the last 25 years. Now, we're a loser.
