President Bush unveiled a $3.1 trillion budget that supports sizable increases in military spending to fight the war on terrorism and protects his signature tax cuts. But Democrats said that his forecast was based on flawed math.
"This growth package must be built on broad-based tax relief that will directly affect economic growth and not the kind of spending projects that will have little impact on our economy," Mr Bush said in brief remarks from the White House on Friday.
