Gordon Brown may think that helping people with their fuel bills this winter is a 'short-term gimmick'. The reality is that it is a pressing need for households which have been plunged into fuel poverty by soaring energy prices. 
They waited a few minutes to see whether I collapsed or went delirious and said something completely ridiculous like 'Gordon Brown's got a great personality'. Because I didn't say anything too weird, they came to the conclusion that it wasn't the case and they let me go.
Yet again Gordon Brown has raised expectations over the summer just to crush them. Energy companies are making huge profits. Some of that should be ploughed back into helping consumers as a matter of urgency.
I am absolutely convinced, Mr. Prime Minister, that this should not stand in the way of an agreement between us and the Palestinians.
Settlement expansion has made peace harder to achieve. It erodes trust, it heightens Palestinian suffering, it makes the compromises Israel needs to make for peace more difficult
