View Photo »Bottom line, I am not doing the job
Physically, I'm fine ... If I was hurt then I could actually explain my bad luck right now. It's just nothing is going for me right now. Every day I come in here, I'm positive, I feel like I can get the job done. I feel like my pitches are there…I just have to keep believing in myself and keep going.
Ozzie made a good decision, worked out for us
Didn't have it tonight ... Ozzie made a good decision and it worked out for us. Shek came in and did an unbelievable job and Stanton picked me up big time there. I just felt really bad because Zambrano pitched one heck of a game and got nothing for it. My teammates picked me up.
I'd rather have a team that struggles early and finishes strong
Plain and simple, if you look at the bad month I had in April, if I throw strikes, I get the job done
That's a game changer right there ... I think we needed it as a team to be honest with you. I didn't think it was necessarily me. This was a team win…If you could hear our dugout, all nine innings guys were cheering everybody on and picking everybody up. It was a huge team win.
Plain and simple, it shows the confidence that Ozzie and the coaching staff have that it will turn around for me ... I think that's why they put me out there.
My daughter has called me up and asked me, 'Dad, is your arm hurt?'
He gets really ticked off if he doesn't get a hit or something like that ... This is a perfect way to teach him, hey, it's OK. Even Dad, even though he's had great years, you can struggle. You just have to keep fighting, keep working hard and never giving up. It's just a learning tool that I can kind of...
My son who plays ball, he's 8
I came in and just had some issues and I kind of fell into a trap of not being me
It's not going to happen overnight, and it hasn't happened ... I feel closer to the coaching staff than I did two weeks ago, I feel closer to the training staff and the players than I did two weeks ago. That's a big part, too. Coming in, everybody goes, 'Oooh, you're Heath Bell the All-Star closer.' Now...
Even though I haven't performed up to my ability, I learned what I did wrong yesterday ... I think we've worked on it and we will keep working on it to make sure it doesn't happen again. That's all I can do. This is a game of adjustments. You have top keep working and keep getting better. I definitely n...
Sometimes you go through ups and downs
I need to pound the strike zone and I'm not doing that right now ... I feel like I will pound the strike zone from here on out.
Apparently our trainer says I work too hard. I’m out busting my ass every single day on the treadmill, the bike, working, looking at the video
I'm confident I can pitch like I know I can
I thought I'd get him, and then I just pulled on a fastball ... That pitch, I wish I could have that one back.
I felt really good. I felt that my pitches were there. I felt like I threw the pitches where I wanted for the most part. I think 95 percent of the time, I was right where I needed to be
Trevor Hoffman showed me how to take care of my arm ... His philosophy was that you only have so many bullets in your arm, so why try to rear back and chuck it? If you don't need to, don't. I think most closers are guys who throw really hard. They're guys who throw hard for a couple of years, and if the...
I think they’ll be happy on one hand
It was inspirational, how far I've come
It’s definitely beginning to feel like home ... It’s a shame we have to go on the road now. But hopefully we can keep this going.
I want everybody to know that, OK, the game's over when I come running in ... They could leave right there and then because they know right there and then there's going to be a 'W' on the board.
