The brighter discs are indicated by a glowing cusp in the excited material and facing the bright star, but which we see at a random orientation within the nebula, so some appear edge on, and others face on, for instance. Full Article at Universe Today
About 1,300 light years away from Earth, the Orion Nebula is a colossal star factory 12 light-years wide (one light year is 5.9 trillion miles). It's basically a hydrogen gas cloud filled with newborn, blazing stars. Full Article at USA Today

An odd array of 30 newly released images from the Hubble Space Telescope reveal planetary systems in the making. The blobs and smudges, as astronomers described them, sit in the widely photographed Orion Nebula. Full Article at MSNBC
Although Sean Dougherty spends a lot of time thinking about spacecraft, he has his feet firmly on the ground, usually in a lab, near a test setup or at a PC workstation. Full Article at Design News
