The one thing that has stood out with the teams I've watched is their toughness ... You can't have guys out there waiting for the rebound to come to them. I thought Jay Wright did a heck of a job getting his guys to really compete. They did a lot of good things. They all played bigger than they were, they pressed a little, they changed up defenses. We have to come up with something for our personnel that can cause havoc for other teams.
I don't feel I can go to a basketball game and somebody look at me and say, 'That's Tim Donaghy's father,' ... I haven't been to a game since it happened. I used to go to Villanova and St. Joe all the time and watch the practices. I probably would have gone down to Temple because 'Dunph' [Fran Dunphy] and I are good friends. Jay [Wright] is a good friend of mine. Phil [Martelli] is a good friend. I don't do any of that stuff anymore.
It felt good for me, being close to home ... Coach Jay Wright really grew on me. He's a great coach and I feel like I can be a great player for him.
They have all five guys coming back next year, but I really like Villanova. [Coach Jay] Wright, he really took me under his wing. I love [him]. I see myself in their offense and defense, too.
I think it was a good fit for what I was looking for ... I like the way (coach Jay Wright) helps people out as far as getting them to a D-I school.
David Wright homers after taking batting practice against David Letterman ... What's next, Beltran and Delgado hitting against Jay Leno?
Coach Wright talks to Tyreke and Tyreke is happy to get his calls ... but I think the people at Villanova feel he's going to Memphis. They would love to have Tyreke, and Jay would be willing to maybe go with four guards. You have to go after a local star, that's what a top-25 program like Villanova is supposed to do. But the feeling is that Tyreke was always going to wind up at Memphis.
It's just everything - the family atmosphere and the fact that Coach [Jay] Wright and his staff are great guys ... I just feel like it's the perfect fit for me as a basketball player.
He’s seen us practice a couple of days and watched us play (in Lawrence) ... I think he likes this team. He also likes Villanova’s team, too. He’s seen them a lot more than he’s seen us because he lives there in Philly. I know he and Jay (Wright, Villanova coach) are pretty close. We are a team that’s balanced. It seems to be a different guy most every night for us.
