View Photo »There are guys who talk just to talk ... Then you hear stories about a guy like Andre Dawson. He was a real quiet, player, didn't say much, but when he talked everyone shut up and listened. Chase has that in him too. When he says something, everybody stands at attention.
I went to Phillies games in the days when Pete Rose was there, and that just stuck with me. I'm sticking with the Phillies and (first baseman) Ryan Howard and (outfielder) Jayson Werth. My dad is a die-hard Yankees fan, so we don't talk too much about baseball.
That's probably not a fair question ... Pat always will be missed around here, but, that said, we made a great addition with Raul Ibanez. He filled a great void not only in leftfield but in the clubhouse.
Jayson Werth could throw a ball from my law office - which displays the Phillies jersey I hung in the front window after wearing it to watch them win the National League Championship - and hit the Empire Grill, roughly the distance from right field to homeplate
I was really hoping that the guys at Mayo Clinic knew what they were doing, and they did ... They diagnosed it and they did the surgery, and really it was not that big a deal, although it was very rare. I saw Dr. Berger was the only doctor at the time diagnosing and repairing my injury.
It's a team of stars ... but not as in, 'I'm better than you.' It's more like, 'I'm good at what I do, you're good at what you do.' Shane [Victorino] is a star in center field. J-Dub [Jayson Werth] is a star in right field. There are no egos in what we do. It's just a group of guys that really like each...
It's great ... We won the National League. We did our job. We're in position. Now we've got four games to win. That's the bottom line.
We were shaking hands after we got beat by Colorado ... Ryan Howard went around the room saying, 'Remember how this feels.' I think that stuck in all our minds. It did in mine. There was an empty feeling, and we didn't want to have that again.
Now we've got to find a way to split or win both ... Most importantly, we need to get home-field advantage back in our favor and find a way to get it done. We're in a situation now that reminds me of when we went to Tampa last year and split the first two games of the World Series.
Between the wind and the sun in right field, it was probably the toughest day defensively in Philly that I've seen ... I actually talked to (Rockies right fielder) Brad Hawpe just in passing out there, and we were just shaking our heads about how tough right field was.
Between the wind and the sun in right field this was probably the toughest day in Philly that I've seen ... Even the play where I threw the guy out at third, I was back on my heels. I was just happy I caught it. It was pretty intense as far as the sun bearing in on you and the wind was swirling. It wasn...
We’ve got a long way to go, but this is where we want to be ... It’s a special moment. Hopefully, the town of Philly is going nuts. Maybe not as nuts as when we won the World Series, but hopefully they get another chance at that.
