Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck to play Madison Square Garden
I've always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around ... He's a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again.
There are five or six guitar players that I love equally: B.B. King, Elmore James, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, John Mayer. I think he's bad to the bone. You have no idea the looks I get when I say I think Mayer plays great ... I love Robert Cray, Kenny Burrell, some of the jazz greats and then they get too...

I first called him from Cleveland when I went to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame jam with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Flea and METALLICA ... It took several minutes to convince him that it wasn't a prank call, but a true invitation to audition to sing on the CD.
When I first saw Jimmy Page, he was in the Tom Jones band. This was pre-Led Zeppelin. That was a paying gig, and he was offered a gig in the Yardbirds. He turned it down and recommended Jeff Beck, because he had this big-paying gig with Tom Jones.
with Jimi Hendrix in mind. I had a Vox drum box – all I could get out of it was 'gong-CLOCK-gong-CLOCK'. Anyway, I couldn't get it to Hendrix. Mickie Most took it to Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart. Then Cliff heard an acetate and said 'Why didn't you play it to me first?'
