People think he has the best equipment and all he has to do is point the car ... There's more to it than that. Look who he's beating. He's beating Jeff Gordon. He's beating Mark Martin.
I see the similarities how well they click, how well the team performs. No doubt about that ... Those guys are obviously the best out here in this garage right now. Their results speak for themselves. The roll they've been on certainly reminds me of the roll we were on with the DuPont Chevrolet back in ...
He has raced and finished second to some of the all-time greats when they were in their prime, from Jeff Gordon to Dale Earnhardt. Has anyone [else] ever raced against that many champions in their prime and finished second? He would have to be considered one of the all-time greats.
In addition to spinning trying to avoid Carl Edwards and Juan Montoya
We watch with awe when Tiger Woods chips in from 40 feet, when Reggie Bush cuts inside tackle and goes 50 yards for a touchdown ... With Jimmy, you can’t see his brilliance. When he goes 300 feet deeper into the corner at Atlanta, when he passes his teammate Jeff Gordon, when he leads 80 percent of the ...
We weren't waiting ... We were working hard every weekend. And you know we've been very close.... But the fact that we did get it and to do it here at Texas, a track where we have struggled at until recently, this is a great place to do it. We're focused on ending this season the best we possibly can.
We'll keep pushing to be better and to try to be where the No. 48 (Jimmie Johnson) team and the No. 24 (Jeff Gordon) team and the No. 5 (Mark Martin) team and all these great race teams that we're competing against and that we're racing for points.
How ironic is this that we go on this (winless) streak and we end it here at Texas, a place that just eluded us for so long
You know, I just have exceeded I think my expectations. The race team has done everything that I knew that they could. I just didn't know, you know, if I could—I really didn't know if I could compete against Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. coming into this season, for sure.
Every time, it evolves because the drivers continue to push what the car is capable of and what the drivers are capable of ... I thought there were no-bump zones or something like that, but the reason why that’s happening is because NASCAR is allowing the cars to push one another through the corners. Un...
I would have to say this is probably as good as it gets ... You know, to have the three cars in the points where they are right now [Jeff Gordon, another Hendrick driver, is third behind Johnson and Martin], having the championship as owner going into Homestead already secured, we've won a lot of races ...
I thought there were no-bump zones ... The reason why that is working and happening is NASCAR is allowing the cars to push one another through the corners. Until they crack down on that you're going to see it come down to two guys locking up together and pushing one another and then trying to figure out...
You have to idolize the guy. Who can win four straight titles in this type of era? Not even Jeff Gordon could do it. It's a big deal. Those guys have really got it together and, one of these days, whoever beats them, I can't imagine if they can go five straight.
I don't think there is anybody in the garage area that wouldn't like to see Mark Martin win it as a sentimental favorite
Everyone deserves to have a home track whether you're a fan or a competitor, but we're at a different time and place with the economy ... You move away from a lot of these things. But moving to Las Vegas and California has brought us more talent the Busch brothers, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson.
A lot of times it's tough, it's very competitive and it's frustrating ... When you get beat it's because of the way the competition is driving one another. NASCAR hasn't always been like Formula One or Indy cars where you're up against your teammate. Your performance is driven by your teammate and there...
Heck, I'm not mathematically eliminated yet ... We'll go to Homestead, and we've got to race for second yet. We've got a race on our hands with Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch. We're still racing like there's no tomorrow.
We were just trying to make it interesting because nobody else seemed to be able to do that for the 48, and we certainly couldn’t on that last run ... It was a great day for the DuPont/Pepsi Chevrolet. We really fought hard all day and all weekend to get ourselves in that position.
We've still got to go to Homestead and run like this again, because we still have heat behind us, Jeff Gordon, especially ... I definitely have been beat by the best [for past championships] -- Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt. It wouldn't embarrass me if it was Jimmie Johnson as well.
We got a little bit behind in New Hampshire. We've got to make sure that's the worst finish that we have in the Chase ... That's the only chance that we have, and that's asking a lot, but that's now our goal. It's the position we put ourselves in.
We’ve still got to go to Homestead and run like this again, because we still have heat behind us, Jeff Gordon, especially
California was a track earlier in the year where I felt like we let one slip away ... And I'm hoping that we can get that one back the next time we go.
We've still got to go to Homestead and run our best because you never know ... Realistically, we're battling for second. I definitely have been beat by the best for these Cup titles — Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt. It wouldn't embarrass me if it was Jimmie Johnson as well.
If we can just do it another seven weeks, man, I'll be happy with that ... Right now, we've got to focus on our team and our program and our finishes and we can't control what those guys do or Greg Biffle or Tony Stewart or any of them. We got a little bit behind at New Hampshire and we've got to make s...
