Jim Tracy had better and healthier players, and there’s just no doubt about it that they’re having better seasons. View Photo »Oh, they're ready to start ... When you have the type of talent that Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler possess, you're looking at special things happening on a day-in, day-out basis for years to come. They're both five-tool players. Not many teams can boast about that.
When I saw the start last Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers, it was the Aaron Cook that we have --- as the Rockies have grown accustomed to seeing when he's on his game in that manner ... Tremendous sinker, great competitor.
Our medical people had been working on him over the last couple days and his groin is about the same as it was when we had to remove him from the game Saturday night in Los Angeles
I didn't feel like I had anything to prove after (being replaced as manager in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh), but this is gratifying
I think it's fairly safe to say, if you were to suggest that Ubaldo Jimenez might have a good chance to start Game 1, you'd probably have a real chance of being correct
Before he got hurt, Jorge looked an awful lot liked he did against San Francisco
Including the guy who pitched ninth inning, Franklin Morales, every player we used [Thursday] was a homegrown player and there are not a lot of organizations that can boast about something like that
Right now what's been going on offensively when you look at it, we've gotten big production and big moments here as of late from [Tulowitzki] and Yorvit Torrealba ... There's not a whole lot happening offensively between that, and that's the sticking point right now.
Jason Hammel has done a tremendous job in the second half of the season of establishing himself and being a guy that you look forward to every fifth day ... If you go back and look at the number of Major League innings that he's pitched vs. where he's at right now, I'm sorry if it's right, wrong or othe...
In that third and fourth inning, Jason Marquis looked like the old Jason Marquis ... He was attacking with his sinkerball. And that's something we have been talking a lot about.
Part of your job as the guy in charge is to make a difficult decision and know full well that it might not be appreciated or understood, but sooner or later, we'll get to the point where it is, and sooner or later, Brad Hawpe is going to start swinging the bat the way we know he's capable of, the way he...
Right now, Yorvit Torrealba gives us a really good chance to win ... This guy is doing dynamic things. You can't take the game away from the guy. It's not like I'm trying to punish Chris Iannetta. It's not like I've lost any faith in Chris Iannetta.
And, [catcher] Yorvit Torrealba has worked with him and led him tremendously
We set the stage for them in the second inning ... And when you’re facing a guy like Tim Lincecum you can’t give the other team extra outs. Every run is precious.
That's basically the way we have it sketched out right now ... The flexibility to it obviously will be determined moreso by Jose Contreras and how he progresses.
