View Photo »The only thing I can come up with at the end of the year is we have been less affected by pressure than other teams ... We prepare the cars the same. Our approach is the same. All the races, our intentions were to get as many points as possible, which you know is winning and scoring consistent finishes....
That's one of the things [four-time defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson] has done very well. They really understand the rules and how it works.
Oh, yeah ... The top of his world of what he's worked through being a body man through all the positions being a crew chief on the car that won the Daytona 500 is it. Right now Darian is that guy.
Some of my crew are big NASCAR fans, and they told me that if I could get close to Jimmie Johnson, to mix it up a little with him.
Oh, yeah ... The top of his world of what he's worked through being a body man through all the positions being a crew chief on the car that won the Daytona 500 is it. Right now Darian is that guy.
We can focus really hard on winning the Chase… The insecurities he may have had in potential performances, the trying to fit in here and understand his place with Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr., those are gone. He’s focused on Mark Martin, the driver, and he’s focused on the right things. The ...
He's just protecting himself, I guess ... It would mean the world to him. Yes, he was extremely responsible for that car going to Victory Lane, but he wasn't on the box. He wants to be on the box. When I called him after the race from Victory Lane, I could tell he was so happy and proud, but at the same...
There are so many Cup guys running over here, going back and forth and back and forth from one side of the garage to the other practically every weekend. Do they see Jimmie Johnson doing that? Is this all that hard to figure out?
There's basically nothing the cameras won't see from here until the end of the Daytona 500
This was the best hard-card event, not counting Jimmie Johnson ... My favorite driver is Tony Stewart, but it's great to meet these drivers.
That's Chad right there ... He's as driven as anyone I've met.
That's pretty much where Jimmie Johnson is now, right?
They just didn't get it on tape ... It was too bad.
To win 12 races in the last two years, that’s solid. Nobody in the garage area has that type of track record other than Jimmie Johnson and a couple of others.
It's exciting and nervewracking to watch it
First of all, how do we know that Jimmie Johnson is the team to beat in 2010?
I'm entering this year saying we're going to get beat, in my mind
There's three guys (champion Jimmie Johnson, points runner-up Mark Martin and third-place Jeff Gordon) who made the Chase and we didn't. We have to get out there and prove ourselves.
I'm entering this year saying, 'We're going to get beat,' in my mind
The reason I don't like it anywhere else is there's nothing you can do if Jimmie Johnson has a car like he had at Phoenix ... No one is just riding second to him. He's just got people stumped on that day.
He can't do it on his own. He's been more internal and to himself on cars, setups, kind of been on his own little island
The fact that Jimmie Johnson was voted the AP Male Athlete of the Year is significant because it means that the sports editors around the country understand and appreciate NASCAR as a sport
It's been tough on him. I think his confidence has been beat down some, and I think the unification between the 88 and the 5 is very good for him
Come to Daytona and watch Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson battle it out on the high banks in the famed Winged Wonder cars of the ‘70s!
On the track, guys race each other, we all race each other how we've been treated
