The new missile-defence programme is designed to meet existing threats in Europe with proven technology that will cover more of Europe, including the Czech Republic, more effectively than the previous system could have done
We believe that the bulk of the people of Iran are friendly toward the United States. They are not hostile, and they are going through a difficult period of deciding how to deal with their own government right now
A whole lot has changed in the last year ... Let's assume they left us a review that was absolutely correct. Is that review relevant and totally applicable to today in light of the changes that have taken place in the region, in Afghanistan itself? So I think that is sort of irrelevant. Not sort of – I ...
That’s why the president asked me to get in the plane in January and go to Afghanistan ... I came back with a different review.
In Eastern Europe countries still struggle to fulfil the promise of a strong democracy or a vibrant market economy
The time for Central Europe has come
Under NATO's Article 5, an attack on one is an attack on all ... And this strategic assurance is absolute. President Obama and I consider this to be a solemn obligation.

Simply put, our missile plan is better security for NATO, and is better security for Poland
We share a desire, as well, that Romania's neighbors, including Moldova, will continue along the path towards democratization and economic reform and that they will be integrated into the Euro-Atlantic institutions when they are ready
You were present at the creation of a new Europe, a new security, a new era of peace because you were bold enough to seize that moment ... Be like those in '89. Be bold. Exercise your leadership. You have a history and you have a tradition. You can make a gigantic difference and we'll stand with you.

In Afghanistan, your forces are performing skillfully and in the toughest places, and toughest combat ... Your soldiers are warriors. Our troops are proud to stand next to Romanians because you ... are incredibly competent.
Simply put, it's better for NATO, it's better for Poland, it's better for Europe, it's better for the United States
Simply put, our missile plan is better security for NATO and it's better security for Poland, not only better security for the United States of America
Make no mistake about it, our commitment to Poland is unwavering ... We are thankful, we are thankful, for your soldiers standing alongside ours in Afghanistan.
We have no agreements with Russia at central Europe's expense and we will not sign any such agreements - Nothing about you without you
My grandpop used to say -- there was a suburb of Scranton called Minooka. He said, ‘When the guy in Minooka's out of work, it's an economic slowdown. When your brother- in-law's out of work, it's a recession. When you're out of work, it's a depression,'

Arlen Specter has been my friend for well over 30 years ... The truth is Arlen's been a moderate Democrat his whole career, even when he was a Republican.
Without Arlen having convinced two of his Republican colleagues to change their vote and vote for the stimulus package, we would probably be in a depression ... Now, that counts for something.
