View Photo »He's just had a lot on his mind ... But I think he's really worked his way through all of it.
Martin Brodeur was my oldest daughter's first babysitter. She's 18 now ... Just before the lockout I brought her to a game and took a picture of her with Marty. Scott Niedermayer was still on the team. So was Joe Nieuwendyk. My daughter isn't coming to the game tonight. Being 18, she's got other things ...
No, no, I definitely think we'll see Mike again this year ... There's plenty of time.
Great trade ... Worked out for both clubs. We got a five-time all-star. Dallas got Joe Nieuwendyk and a Stanley Cup. Plus, Nieuwendyk is a Hall of Famer.
We talked about this a couple of months ago, and we agreed at the time that if there were teams interested, I would bring the information to Mike

It wouldn't be the first time a guy that played a long time with one team finished with another
Joe Nieuwendyk won the draw back to Blake on the right side. Eric Lindros was blocking and Blake walked in, faked a shot, two defenders went down and he keeps walking in. The goalie comes out and Blake just buries it into the net
I told him from the get-go that I would be open and honest with him ... I let him know when teams called about him to see if he was interested. He decided to stay. We would have pursued some of them if Mike said he wanted to go to a specific team.
The guys that stay involved and work at it (in the front office), still enjoy the game ... I like being around the game, like the people in the game and I like being involved. Someday, it'll be a great challenge to be in some type of role like Kenny or (Dallas Stars GM) Joe Nieuwendyk. We're all relativ...
It's a rough sport, but we're just trying to take the necessary steps to protect our players without taking hitting out of the game
Clearly, the blindside and the unsuspecting player is what we're targeting ... I don't think we're trying to reinvent the wheel here -- we have a great game. But in light of some of the hits -- obviously the David Booth one is kind of the alarming one that everyone took notice of -- I think it's going t...
I think that will be part of it

Clearly the blind side and unsuspecting player is what we’re talking about
I've been in favor of this ... I don't think we're trying to reinvent the wheel either, we have a great game. But in light of some of the hits ... I think it's going to be for the good of the game for sure.
Ultimately it does have to come from the players
In light of what’s happened this past year, the number of concussions, I think you’ll see something ... The changes have to be … to avoid the David Booth-type hit. The blindside hit.

We were listening to a lot of people but there wasn't really anything realistic that we could get done ... We would have loved to get a few draft picks, but this is what we expected for today. We believed we had made our deals already in getting Kari Lehtonen and signing Steve Ott.

You can't change your entire philosophy in one day, so we have to believe in what we have here
To me coach Schafer epitomizes what Cornell hockey is all about-- hard-working, blue-collar, very workmanlike ... I know that's the way he played when I played with him in the mid-'80s. I've been here every year, and that's the way he coaches as well. There's a reason why Cornell hockey is recognized in...
Steve Ott has spent his entire NHL career with the Dallas Stars and we wanted to continue that relationship ... He is the type of player that we want on our team. Steve has become a versatile offensive player and he makes us a harder team to play against. We are excited to have him in a Stars uniform fo...
