You should pardon the cliché, but you don't have to be Jewish to like the new Coen brothers film. Admittedly, Jewish viewers may get more out of A Serious Man, but then so might anyone who grew up in a suburb in the Midwest in the 1960s. Full Article at The Independent

This is a place that is foreign to most people in the Unites States ... A great many people have said if you weren’t Jewish you couldn’t make it. I agree with that. In a similar way, only a non-Jew like Quentin Tarantino could make Inglourious Basterds . I believe that too.

By casting actors from that community you get that feeling of being grounded in the reality of place naturally ... But that's only possible in a place like Minneapolis, where there's a very broad and deep pool of actors.
An actor's body and voice are what they have to work with ... Being from Minnesota is what we have to work with.
Whether it gets made is anybody’s guess. It’s Hollywood.
