From top-flight prospect to hometown disappointment to hard-luck Duck, the former first-round pick has travelled a winding road. And the most recent turn might be the most surprising of all — he's exceeding expectations with the Toronto Maple Leafs. ...
The Leafs started out the season very well; as you will all recall they led the league in points for a period of time. Phil Kessel has kept up his torrid pace and he's dragging Joffrey Lupul with him-while coach Ron Wilson has done quite a good job in...

I have a lot of confidence right now
Are you kidding me?” “Oh for sure, I’ve heard that,” Bozak acknowledged Tuesday. “I’m sure a lot of people in Toronto want a high-profile, high-end first-line centre.” What they have instead is a low-profile centre playing high-end hockey; someone who...

This will be Gustavsson's first start in a week as he looks to bounce back from a loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Feb. 7. In three career games against the Flames, the Monster is 0-2-0 while posting a 4.05 goals-against average and .875 save percentage. ...

In that respect, Bozak has been succeeding. It doesn't matter that, listed at six-foot-one and 195 pounds, he's seen as undersized. Or that he is tied for 36th among NHL centres with 34 points in 47 games. What matters is that linemates Phil Kessel,...
Said Wilson: “We haven’t been picking up rebounds (around the opposing net), and for that matter we haven’t been getting very many deflection opportunities.” Translation: The Leafs could desperately use a big, skilled forward other than Joffrey Lupul...

We have to be a little more confident, a little more competitive ... The first couple of games we played these guys, for some reason we don’t think we can beat them and that’s not the case. I mean we’re the team that’s up at the top of the standings here. We obviously have a lot of respect for them, the...
It will be nice to get healthy. Our one line (Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak) has been great this year. We need to step up as a second line. Six other Leafs are injured and that curse gets mentioned when they gathered in the training room or in a separate practice group. We talk about it a l...

Obviously it's a big trip for us, and it's nice to have three big wins ... We were pretty solid tonight. It's been a lot of travel, kind of all the way down the south coast swing. We were strong all the way through the third period, so that's a good sign.
He took some criticism last year ... This year, he has shown what kind of character he has.
After playing with those guys, especially (Ryan) Getzlaf and (Corey) Perry, I know if they get confidence at the start of the game, they’re going to be tough to contain
We’re one of the few teams that has not blown a third-period lead (the Leafs improved to 9-0 when leading after two periods). Ex-Leaf Francois Beauchemin and Perry scored for the Ducks. Lupul assisted on both of Bozak’s goals, giving him 18 points in November. Only the Chicago Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews...

I still don't think of myself in that category with the top scorers in the league
It broke my shield and caught me in the eye a little bit, but not too bad
It was a good win for us ... We didn't play that well in the second period, we let them back in the game, but we played really well in the third period and it was a hard-fought game right to the end. Tonight it took an effort from everyone, but we got it done.
It was unlike any stadium I have been in ... None of them are in the same category as that one. And the production was unbelievable. Pretty impressive.
At the end of the day, you’re here to win a game
They’ve got a lot of new faces ... When I think Dallas Stars, I’m thinking a lot different guys than are over there. They had that same core group forever – Marty Turco, Mike Modano, Zubov. Obviously all those guys are gone now, and they’ve got these new guys. I guess Brenden Morrow’s still there. But t...

Playing on the east coast, you don’t get those long, drawn-out trips too often like this one ... So it’s fun when you do get them. It’s good to do some fun stuff, but as soon as the wins stop, you stop going to football games. It’s a fun day, but we have to make sure we perform (on Friday).
Right from the time I first got here, I thought he was a skilled player
I'm just excited to see the game and the stadium
We know what works now ... If we go four or five games (without scoring) we can go back and look at the video. We have to expect a little more attention, a little more checking, especially on the road, where we are going to see the other team’s top checking line and top defensive pairings. We have to fi...
We’re still a young team and we can get better at something like that ... But for the most part, going into each game, we know the way we want to play.
We’ve shown some improvements, even though the results haven’t been there lately ... At the start of the year, we were scoring a lot and winning a lot of games 5-4 and 6-5. Now we have a little bit of an identity of things we want to do.
He’s doing a lot of little things and getting rewarded
I didn't think it was all that funny
