Allows for the fact that a low fly-ball rate (and therefore, a low HR rate) is less useful to pitchers who strike out a lot of batters (e.g. Johan Santana’s FIP tends to be higher than his ERA because the former treats all HR the same, even though Santana’s... Full Article at Baseball Think Factory

Will Santana be healthy? If he is, and indications right now are that he is, he has the stuff, in that ballpark, to be the best pitcher in the game. As for Carpenter, after all the injuries he’s had, are you willing to bet on him staying healthy for a second... Full Article at Bleacher Report
Hardly. But I do think that, when given a chance to pull the trigger on a deal for a high-level established major leaguer (especially a pitcher), it’s worth giving up a lot of “prospects” to make it happen. In other words, I would have absolutely made the... Full Article at LoHud.com

It won't get any easier if it's Johan Santana or whoever it is for the Mets that day
Being able to throw for the first time in a real bullpen was big for me
Look, I know these prices are falling to places we never even dreamed, but I would prefer we not spend because I want to go into spring training with only backup catchers and a rotation that is Johan Santana and The Yips?
Once they took those things out, I felt relieved right away
But so far, the way we look at it is, I was very encouraged by the minicamp to be able to see Johan Santana, to be able to see Oliver Perez, to be able to get the reports that John Maine is coming along good. Fernando Nieve has pitched very well in Venezuela
I threw a changeup that had a nice motion
Johan Santana, it was important for me to see him and Oliver Perez ... I really wanted to see those guys.
There were like four or five chips
There's a possibility it doesn't happen, but I do think it will happen ... I'm not the greatest guy at this game, but even I went eight perfect innings with Johan Santana. I say it is gonna get done.
You have to enjoy what you do, because you don't know how long it's going to last. The thing is, around here you have to enjoy the game
Every team has needs, but when you look at other clubs, we're fortunate to say we have a Johan Santana
The reality is that we weren't doing any good
My pressure is self-motivated, self-applied, a desire to pitch well ... You can put CC Sabathia, Johan Santana and Cliff Lee around me, and it's not going to make me feel any better about my ability to pitch. Those guys will do what they can do, and, ultimately, it's my responsibility to do what I can d...
I'm very serious about what I do, but I love to have fun
let’s say the Mets sign Bay and he hits 40 home runs. In either case, the Mets are still only going as far as Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, David Wright, Francisco Rodriguez and Johan Santana will take them… these men are the keys to next season. Not Bay. Not Holliday. And, definitely not Benjie Molina.
I wasn't able to lift my leg the way it's supposed to because I wasn't able to reach out
The Mets should trade Johan Santana
I was very excited about today
As regular readers know, I wanted Miguel Cabrera. I also didn’t want the Sox to give out long-term deals because it would limit their future opportunity to acquire Johan Santana, C.C. Sabathia, Mark Teixeira or Miguel Cabrera. Now that Santana and Cabrera will likely be off the market next winter and th...
I feel like I am doing my mechanics without any problems, so that was big ... And I don't feel anything in my arm, so I think everything should be all right.
We prepare for the Rule 5 Draft on the same lines as we prepare for the June [First-Year Player] Draft ... It's a huge undertaking for us. We put a lot of man-hours in it and try to do the right thing. We leave no stone unturned. The success rate isn't great in the Rule 5 Draft, but with that said, you ...
We talk ... He’s always willing to listen, to learn. But the thing with him last year is that he wasn’t healthy. That wasn’t the same Ollie. But he prepared himself in the off-season to be ready.
It’s good to see that this early because that’s telling me that we’re way ahead of the game
It’s very good, being my first time ... I’m very excited about today.
