View Photo »England have never played Algeria and of course they got through to the finals with a play-off victory over Egypt. But for me, it's all about that first game and getting off to a good start. Every team's opening group match is important and we're no different - it's a big game.
You can get Rio Ferdinand and John Terry out of their preferred lanes instead of running into their brick walls
We can make history. We've missed the obvious big teams but everyone has earned their right to be there and we can't be complacent. We didn't want to end up in a Group of Death - and when you look at the Germany and Brazil groups, it could have been much worse.
We had some injury problems with John Terry, Michael Ballack and Ashley Cole, and I want to look at them before I name my squad. We can use some young players in the squad if those three are not able to play
I listened to other players when we were away with England and they are talking about how well we are playing. They are fearing us again. We could go on to do great things again this year. When we were winning the Premier League we had that invincible feel and we are getting close to that again
John Terry continues to play with great consistency, every game, with the same determination and concentration ... Terry has the same technical and leadership quality as Maldini. We can compare them. This is important to maintain a clean sheet, every game. It's more difficult if you've only got one play...
We’ve had some good results at Arsenal ... Another one could cement our position at the top of the table. There’s also Blackburn away in the Carling Cup. On the two occasions we’ve won the Carling Cup recently we’ve gone on to win other things – the Premier League in 2005 and the FA Cup in 2007. It’s th...
I would relish the chance to come up against Chelsea team-mates John Terry, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard in an England team that can go all the way and win the trophy
When we are away with England, players from other teams tell us they are fearing us again. We have got a good chance of going on to do great things this year
They’re not a unit. Lescott and Kolo Touré haven’t formed a partnership with anything like the understanding that John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho have at Chelsea, or Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at Manchester United.
The 300th game as a skipper is something of which I'm very proud of, it's a big achievement for me ... It's always nice to be first: many good sides could be runners-up, but we want to be first. We've had really good starts in both [Premier League and UEFA Champions League], but no one is getting carrie...
Recipe for Fiver humble pie: one cup swallowing your pride, 250ml admitting you were completely wrong and, finally, a full fat jug of praise for England's Brave John Terry. Because even you have to admit he was sensational against Arsenal yesterday. I'd have EBJT in the trenches over the Fiver any day
We've had some good results at Arsenal
John Terry was superb in Chelsea's victory over Arsenal. He was aggressive, strong and headed every ball that looked like it might pose a danger. Now there are not too many John Terry's around in world football but City need to go out and buy the closest thing they can find.
I really do think we are close to getting back to the invincible feel we had three years ago and I listened to other players when we were away with England and they are talking about how well we are playing like that now
John Terry is: British sporting hero; England’s football captain; World Cup 2018 ambassador; football icon; dad of the year 2008; and voted as one of the World’s most influencial (sic) people.
We have to look at our own strengths and qualities and I think we can mix it with the best sides in the world. Listen, Brazil has got their weaknesses, like we have
and I saw the children on the streets; and I realised I would not be able to enjoy the sight of John Terry (England captain) lifting the World Cup unless I knew something was being done to help these kids, something to give them hope, recognition and dignity.
It's encouraging to know the two times we won the league title, we did it from the front. We got our noses ahead and led all the way. But we're not going to settle for just maintaining the five-point gap. We want to increase that lead. Being honest, I think the title race is now down to three clubs - ou...
This was, more or less, Dunga’s best side against England’s reserves and you sense that Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard would not have been overwhelmed by what they saw from the World Cup favourites.
I want it (the goal) because I've never scored against Manchester United home or away, but Nicolas was brilliant today so he can have it
Some of the best players in the world were captains and also scored goals; Pele, Cruyff, Platini, Maradona. My captain is John Terry and vice-captain is Rio Ferdinand because they are really good on the pitch and in the dressing room
I got a touch on it, but I think maybe Nico got the second touch - but I'm still claiming it
I hope that John Terry will be fit
England would be a fantastic home for the World Cup if we had the opportunity to stage the tournament in 2018
