I added a little bit to make it a nice round number ... I wanted to donate some of my own money because it's a personal cause. It's something I believe in.
It means a lot for me, what these guys do for our country and this city
What better way for me to be able to say, 'Thank you,'
As a position player, I'm biased that I think position players should be at the forefront of that award (the MVP). But if you honestly look at what he accomplished and how much he meant to that team and how dominant he truly was, you cannot make any argument against him winning that award.
Obviously pitchers are not just written off all of a sudden because they're pitchers
I think that a starting pitcher has to do something special to be as valuable or more so than a position player
It felt absolutely amazing
The Cy Young was a dream come true. I couldn't have even dreamed of this ... It was great just to be in the conversation.
I'm glad the writers acknowledged that (starting pitchers) have a major impact in this game and that we can be extremely valuable to our team and its success ... Obviously, you can't do it by yourself.
Not even in my wildest dreams had I thought of this ... I want to say it's a dream come true. I can't say that, because my dream had already come true—it was w inning the Cy Young. The next dream is to win a World Series.
A starting pitcher has to do something special to be as valuable or more valuable than a position player ... A pitcher has to have a great impact almost every time out to supersede that. It happens on rare occasions. I guess this is one of those years.
Bautista and Ellsbury not making the playoffs obviously is a major factor in why I won
I talked myself out of it ... I was trying not to jinx it. Then I thought, 'Don't do that. You want this.' I was playing ping-pong in my head.
I had texted Miggy (Cabrera), wished him the best of luck and told him I hoped one of us wins ... He texted back and said I deserve it. Then, we talked about the World Series.

To have my name linked with those pitchers means a lot to me, and hopefully, the city of Detroit
We do have a major impact
I'm happy that the voters acknowledged that [pitchers] do have a major impact in this game ... and that we can be extremely valuable to our team and its success.
I think a starting pitcher should be eligible
It means a lot really, especially with the way things were going with everybody saying they don’t know if I have a chance, whether the writers would sign me off because I’m a pitcher. I think they set a precedent ... I’m happy that the voters acknowledged that, that we do have a major impact on this gam...
Being (part of) quite a group of such a historic franchise, with those individuals, means a lot to me ... You know, I started in Detroit. Hopefully, I finish in Detroit. And to have my name mentioned with those guys for a long time — for the rest of history, really — it means a lot for me, and hopefully...
I talked to Alex as soon as I found out and he was just as excited as I was, I think. He said it made his day. That means a lot to me, because I told him I definitely could not have done this without him. What a tremendous year he had ... I texted (Miggy) earlier in the day and said I wish him the best ...
To be honest with you, not even in my wildest dreams had I thought of this. I want to say this is a dream come true. I can’t say that, because mine had already come true. That was to win a Cy Young. The next dream is to win a World Series. This dream wasn't even on my radar until the talk started. Then ...
