View Photo »I'm excited with the work he's putting in and the way he's swinging the bat ... and I'm excited to see him come into the year and see what he can do. I think he's definitely a better hitter than he showed last year. That could be big for us.
This manager judges pitchers on how they get people out when they throw strikes ... At the Major League level, you don't get people out throwing balls unless you've got a nasty splitter -- Justin Verlander's type stuff -- where they might swing at a 98 mph fastball up high.
I think he had a big impact on all of us ... He was one of the major reasons why we were as good as we were last year. He's an unselfish player. He wasn't worried about himself. He was worried about us having success, and he showed it.
A tad too low. Justin Verlander is going to be in the Cy Young conversation for years to come; then you have Rick Porcello. If they get a lot out of Max Scherzer, they could be one of the top three rotations in baseball. In the bullpen, they've added Jose Valverde. Miguel Cabrera has his problems behind...
It was a good at-bat, good battle ... It's funny how you don't know guys. I knew nothing about the guy. [Brown] was in [Class A] last year. It is what it is. You take it and learn. It was located well.

He came up to me and said something about saving the runs for the regular season. I said, 'What do you want me to do about it?'
One time, he, Jeremy Bonderman and I talked for 15 or 20 minutes ... He seems like a great guy. Everybody I've talked to really enjoys playing with him.
He's a player's manager, through and through ... As long as he wants to be managing, I would love for him to be my manager. He makes it easy to play baseball. He makes it fun and lighthearted and commands respect at the same time, which is not easy to do. Couldn't ask for a better guy to play for.
That was tough seeing Curtis, Edwin, Polanco and Rodney go
I have one goal and that's to make it to the Hall of Fame
Yeah, you could say that I'm in an advantageous position
They went and signed Valverde and put more money into the team
I think Dave [Dombrowski's] quote is that they want me around for a long time. I want to be here for a long time
