David really is pushing this one. He believes passionately that elected mayors, like we have seen in London with Ken Livingstone and now Boris Johnson, act as a focus for civic renewal and public engagement in local politics.

There has obviously been a Damascene conversion here ... There is no reason why the BBC should not give the mayor a cameo appearance; I just wish they would do it for everybody, not just their chosen favourites.
Boris is committed to helping air quality with his planting trees scheme which will help. If Ken Livingstone was such a good Mayor as so many believe why did he not do anything to resolve air pollution to a safe limit in the eight years he was in charge? I remember mine used to get bored at weddings because there isn't much to do, whereas (at London Zoo) they can jump in and out of the lions' enclosure for fun
