I think it's working out for us ... It gives us another big body like Jason, a big, smart defender. It helps us all get in our spots quicker and trust he'll be there for us on our backside. It helps Al get going a little better. Then you move him over to the '5' [center position] and bring Craig or Kevin [Love] in and he's already into the game and going without doing a lot more work than usual [at center].
Kevin and I had a long friendship that dates back to our basketball days in Salem. He was a generous person in the fullest sense of the word. He was a giant in terms of mastery and knowledge in state government and its workings ... We worked together closely in matters related to Salem. He had a great love of the city.
For example, you can tell how often, if [Kevin] Love throws an outlet pass, how often his team scores on the possession. You can tell how often [O.J.] Mayo goes right versus left, how effective the team is with Mayo pulling up and shooting versus when he pulls up and passes instead.
In the beginning of the tour, we left a gap onstage where Kevin would be, and then it started closing up ... We love him to death. We have to move on. We have new goals and dreams.
Every game we go into it saying we want to spell Matt a little bit, give him a break ... It's been Kevin. And now it's Adrian. That's not a knock on Kevin at all. It's more of numbers that we can dress on special teams. We all love A.P. We all believe Kevin Jones can play, too. We have to go with who's up.
And I just thought it was the funniest stuff ever, just how dirty it was. Even when we were making '40-Year-Old Virgin,' I was a heavy proponent of making it really dirty and pushing the envelope with the friends and just making them very real guys' guys, and a lot of that came from my love of 'Clerks' and Kevin Smith. I would say I'm a direct product of his work.
