We started well and had given away only 16 to 18 runs in the first four overs. Both Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra began well but then to give away 200-odd runs in the next 16 overs cost us the match

View Photo »It's difficult to say which was worse but I feel here, we won one and lost one while a game was rained off. In England it felt worse because we got enough games and our performance was not good enough.
We now have to prepare for the next one-day series against Australia (at home in October)
Well there's a nice break, that's for sure. Next is the Champions League, we will look to get some entertainment out of it and after that will be Australia, so we'll be prepared for it. Hopefully, all the guys will be fit for the series
Surely Indian fans want us to qualify; so I am sure they will definitely support Pakistan against Australia, wherever the venue is. But again, it is entirely left to them [Pakistan] to win the match

I brought part-timers from the two ends, as I have seen when you bring a part-timer with Harbhajan Singh, the batsmen usually see off Bhajji and milk the other bowler
The thing is you see good performances in the domestic and IPL circuit and you suddenly think of them as India prospects. But, a 50-over game is different from a 20-over match. It also tests your endurance, whether you are similarly fresh in bowling at the death
Yuvraj Singh is always an asset. We rely a lot on him, especially in the middle overs. Viru is also not here. We have always relied on part-timers. Out of the five part-timers we had, we lost three, including Rohit Sharma. It will be tough for us to fill in their space not only in batting but in bowling...

Our fielding standards, compared to the ones we had in Australia in 2007, is now very different. A lot of it has to do because of different conditions in which cricketers come up
The coming back of Gautam Gambhir will give us a lot of relief. He is such a batsman who is not only capable of giving a good start but we have seen that he takes his innings to 50 overs.
It comes as a big relief. It's good that Gambhir has recovered... he can really make a difference at the top of the order in the absence of Virender Sehwag
It's good to have a player like him (Dravid) batting at number three especially in South Africa where conditions suit fast bowlers
We had used Ishant as first change with a slightly used ball as Ashish Nehra and R P Singh are better at swinging the new ball. Batsmen go after the first change bowler and you never know what good figures are (for such bowlers). He's done well in Tests
It was the worst day for us. We didn't start well neither in bowling nor in batting. The Sri Lankans started very well. Sanath (Jayasuriya) along with Dilshan gave them the perfect start with the bat and then Angelo Mathews came good with the ball
