What was the actual impact on Netflix?
Netflix is wonderfully architected. They purposely blow away parts of a system to make sure they don't have points of failure. They came through without downtime.
However, this change marks the end of Lovefilm for Linux, one of the few advantages the service had over its American analogue Netflix
Microsoft needs a content and media cloud, like Netflix
That's not something we're going to do... People say, Why don't you license to Netflix? That's like asking, Why don't you license to Showtime? ... Netflix is frankly a pay-television service. We don't, and we won't, license to a service like that.
That's not something we're going to do... People say, Why don't you license to Netflix? That's like asking, Why don't you license to Showtime? ... Netflix is frankly a pay-television service. We don't, and we won't, license to a service like that.
We acknowledge that the company's loss could well be an order of magnitude higher. In reality, if Netflix does not make changes to its spending and pricing strategies, we think that the company might lose $2.00 or more in 2012, and may not make a substantial profit in 2013
Netflix is a different experience, so I'm not really concerned as there isn't a particularly large demographic overlap
Netflix is a very different type of service, it is very broad ... It offers tens of thousands of titles across several genres, whereas [iPlayer] is a branded service where we aggregate a very deep type of content; TV content as opposed to film.
At a minimum, we expect Netflix to lose $100 million internationally next year, and we think that the figure could rise to as much as $250 [million] to $300 million
My guess is they'll sell out to Google or Amazon ... There is a need for them in the public, but the studios don't need them. The studios are going to want more of the money. [Customers] can pay eight bucks a month to watch movies. How much of that eight bucks gets back to the people who make the movies...
If you watch enough movies [on Netflix], you pay something like 33 cents to see a movie ... I think movies are more valuable than that. It's a great source of revenue for the studios, but in the long term we're devaluing our assets. [Hastings] had a good game going but now it's a mess.
Netflix executives changed the game by paying attention, noticing unusual solutions to doing business, and listening closely to their inner experience and feelings about ordering movies online
Netflix in the US costs about $US8 per month for unlimited watching of any kind of television show you can imagine
We take any downtime incredibly seriously, whether it’s Netflix or the federal government ... We’re trying to be transparent about incidents and publicize what is happening as much as possible.
We are particularly concerned by the company's 'grow at all costs' business model ... Netflix management is willing to incur losses for all of 2012 in order to chase international expansion; we think that international subscribers will generate losses for the foreseeable future at a time when the compan...
At a minimum, we expect Netflix to lose $100 million internationally next year, and we think that the figure could rise to as much as $250 [million] to $300 million, based upon its Q4 guidance
I've been using Xbox for awhile now to watch things like Hulu Plus for TV or Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX), and it is really convenient to use voice commands
Netflix management is willing to incur losses for all of 2012 in order to chase international expansion; we think that international subscribers will generate losses for the foreseeable future at a time when the company has alienated its most profitable domestic customers with its sharp price increases,...
In our view, the company’s business model was broken when it raised prices for its hybrid customers, and continued customer defections will require it to invest ever increasing amounts on marketing ... We estimate that Netflix will spend $800 million on streaming content in 2011, and expect streaming co...
Netflix and its CEO Reed Hastings of course knew that this was coming and prepared the company for a shift into streaming video!
In comparison, one TV show streamed from Netflix, an approved Apple App, could easily be in the 300-400 MBs range.
I spend 4 hours a day watching Netflix Instant on my computer.
Arrested Development is one of the finest American comedies in TV history and its return through Netflix is a perfect example of how we are working closely with studios and networks to provide consumers with entertainment they love
Australians don't have access to Netflix right now, but by 2020 when we do have access to similar services, you could easily imagine video and TV on demand could be well over 50% of the NBN use.
