There are smart people in the Major League Baseball offices wondering if there’s hope of even discussing a potential move of the Rays to New Jersey or Southern Connecticut over certain protests from the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Phillies

I think the fans let them know this is not the Brooklyn Dodgers, this is the New York Mets
And he signed a one year deal last year with the Dodgers. He’s said in the past he’d love to play for Los Mets.
Two weeks ago we were confident in Carlos Beltran being in the lineup, and now he's not going to be for the start, so that's why we went out and got Gary Matthews ... I think a healthy Mets team will contend for a playoff spot. I think the Phillies have really improved themselves, so we have a lot of wo...
Matthews gives the Mets some insurance in center field, since Carlos Beltran recently underwent surgery and is expected to miss at least the first few weeks of the season
There was a short list of teams that I wanted to go to, and the New York Mets were on that list ... To be able to be here on the team and in the place that I wanted to be, you only get a chance to do this once or twice in a career. I'm very grateful and honored to be here.
I get to play baseball downstairs with the Mets!
They’re really important little people, these kids, and it’s great to have the Mets recognize that and meet with them ... A lot of the kids have made cards, a lot wore uniforms and a lot of the kids have been playing baseball and baseball video games and they’re so excited. It’s great to see this level ...
We still have some time on our side ... so we wanted to make sure it got done. It's not too far off what (New York Mets center fielder) Carlos Beltran had, but not as serious.
How badly run are the Mets? Think about this: the Mets played in a World Series and still were the least efficient team in baseball. They spent $737.5 million more than Florida and won four more games than the Marlins.

the biggest mistake I ever made. I went to Los Angeles (as a free agent) and baseball wasn't baseball the way I was used to. Sometimes as players, we think it's all about us and don't realize what's important in the midst of our career. I'll always regret leaving the Mets in the free agent market.
an internal issue [for the Mets]. Carlos Beltran was not at fault. He followed the orders of the Met doctor, who told [Beltran's doctor] to go ahead with the surgery.

I think we know the way the Mets will go – they’ll plug in Angel Pagan and hope for the best.
This is not an issue between Carlos Beltran and the Mets
no problem between the New York Mets and Carlos Beltran
The Mets had notice of the surgery on Wednesday because their physician was informed, Dr. Altchek, by Dr. Steadman ... The Mets had notice when their trainer was informed by Dr. Steadman's office, and he also approved the surgery. Carlos Beltran informed (general manager) Omar Minaya of it through a con...
This situation was recently brought to our attention. Based on the facts as we currently understand them, the Mets have no basis to assert that Carlos Beltran violated his contract
Steadman communicated to Altchek that the surgery was on Wednesday ... Ray Ramirez knew [Beltran] was having surgery on Wednesday. So two Mets officials were informed and gave their approval. Carlos Beltran called Omar Minaya himself on Tuesday afternoon and informed him the surgery was Wednesday.
It is unfathomable to me that Dr. Altchek or Ray Ramirez did not report to the Mets on Tuesday that Carlos Beltran was having surgery
