View Photo »I wanted to meet the Pet Shop Boys, not Gilbert & George – though later I decided I should meet Gilbert & George too.
If they want to describe it that way, then we're okay with that! It's weird, because we're not the biggest Pet Shop Boys fans - we've never really listened to their music. The Fantasia thing is nice because we played around with that idea for this album quite early on.
There's some great praise for us out there, but it becomes so easy to focus only on the negative comments. A lot of people were calling us the new Pet Shop Boys or a dreamy MGMT and it got into our minds. We've made a lot of s**t songs as a result trying to be those things. Eventually you have to stop.
