View Photo »I want a substantive discussion
It's just really surreal when you're on the White House lawn, escorted by Secret Service and trying to concentrate on what you're supposed to do ... But at the same time it was an honor. It was so much fun.
One senator, as you all are aware, had put a hold on every single nominee that we had put forward due to a dispute over a couple of earmarks in his state ... In our meeting, I asked the congressional leadership to put a stop to these holds in which nominees for critical jobs are denied a vote for months...
You work in the White House, and you walk over to the tent and right across to your right, there is the Oval Office
Bipartisan cannot mean simply that Democrats give up everything that they believe in, find the handful of things that Republicans have been advocating for, and we do those things, and then we have bipartisanship ... There's got to be some give and take.
We remain hopeful that the Republican leadership will work in a bipartisan fashion on the great challenges the American people face
The people who sent us here expect a seriousness of purpose that transcends petty politics
The problem with the Democrats' health care bills is not that the American people don't understand them; the American people do understand them, and they don't like them. The best way to start on real, bipartisan reform would be to scrap those bills and focus on the kind of step-by-step improvements tha...
You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig
If Congress decides we're not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, after all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not ... That's how democracy works.
What I will not do, what I don't think makes sense and I don't think the American people want to see, would be another year of partisan wrangling around these issues; another six months or eight months or nine months worth of hearings in every single committee in the House and the Senate in which there'...
Such preconditions suggest the White House is not serious about genuine negotiations ... A large majority of the American people strongly oppose the Democrat's massive bill, and Republicans will not abandon them.
Without effective intervention, many more children will endure serious illnesses that will put a strain on our healthcare system. We must act now to improve the health of our nation’s children and avoid spending billions of dollars treating preventable disease
Such preconditions suggest the White House is not serious about genuine negotiations ... A large majority of the American people strongly oppose the Democrat's massive bill, and Republicans will not abandon them.
I have set a goal to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight
According to recent news reports, however, White House officials have made it clear 'that Obama does not intend to restart the health care legislative process from scratch' and 'that he's adamant about passing comprehensive reform similar to the bills passed by the House and Senate,'
We all understand that there are legitimate and genuine differences between the parties
But the American people are asking a more important question: Will anything else change? Will the Democratic majority ... be forced to cling to a 60-vote strategy as the only path to progress... . Will the Republican minority misread the results from Massachusetts as vindication of a strategy to 'just s...
I'm going to be discussing both with my Democratic and Republican colleagues how we can get that moving as quickly as possible so that we can start taking some concrete action
It's is regrettable that the New York Times has chosen not to review the substantial evidence of corruption, collusion and unethical activities that has been presented in Scamraiders.com's articles and archives since its inception in July 2009, involving certain judges, lawyers, litigants, scammers and ...
Despite the posturing that the nuclear power is only for civilian use... they in fact continue to pursue a course that would lead to weaponisation, and that is not acceptable to the international community
When it comes to creating jobs, Congressman Bishop has three strikes against him. He's an academic, a career politician and someone who walks lockstep with the high tax policies of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama
It's moving along fairly quickly
For me and a lot of other academic types, we identify with Obama precisely because he is an intellectual ... But what does that mean to John Q. Public? I don’t know. John Q. Public may be frightened of these people, especially because this particular intellectual is a black.
I’m here to launch a new chapter of engagement that will be sustained throughout my administration.
