I don't know what happened in Texas, but to me, he's a good teammate ... He's quiet. He works hard. He does his work in between starts. He wants to win. He's been competitive. He's been a great pickup.

The sun and I usually aren’t friends ... I’ve always had a tough time pitching in (places) like Florida and Atlanta and sometimes I turn about three shades of pink and I overheat.
I think the Dodgers' left-handed pitchers, Randy Wolf and Clayton Kershaw, and in the bullpen, George Sherrill and Hong-Chih Kuo can neutralize the big left-handed bats of the Philadelphia Phillies ... What this means in the end is Joe Torre, former Yankee manager, takes on his old team in a Dodgers vs....
He's probably a guy who is going to the Hall of Fame ... We talked before he approved the trade and he realized that we had a chance to go to the World Series. He could have stayed in the American League and received more at-bats as a DH. But he realized we had a shot at a championship.

I don't know what happened in Texas ... I like him. He's his own guy, there's no doubt about that, but he works hard. I thought getting a clean start over here was going to be good for him. He's definitely helped us.
I almost despise that word ... A guy like Chris Carpenter, you could consider him an ace. He's done it year in, year out. He's the guy who is almost a perennial top-five Cy Young voting guy.

We've obviously seen Colorado a lot more, but Philly obviously has an offense that is very strong ... They've got the pitchers, too. It's going to be a battle either way. We've got to be ready for whichever team comes our way. They both have strengths in different areas. They're both strong teams.
He's done it year in and year out ... Always when you think of Chris Carpenter, you think ace. I've been pitching well. I've kept the team in the game. And I happen to be pitching Game 1.
We've played better against the Phillies, and one thing about St. Louis you can't argue is their 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation, so that's an obvious challenge
One thing about Jim is he could have (opted to) not come here ... He's a big-time hitter. He's in a role he's probably not used to. He could have stayed in the American League, DH'd, gotten more at-bats. But he realized what the most important thing is and that's winning.
The only pitch that didn't feel good in the bullpen in Arizona was a curveball, and the first one today felt great
