Interesting note: No one picked Tony Dungy or even ‘Chucky’ What do you think of the coaching staff you chose? It’s definitely a superstar group if they put their egos aside, I’m just worried they won’t work well together and that Sean Payton might...
Last year’s quarterback market was slim pickings due in large part to the lockout-related CBA rules that limited unrestricted free agents to those players with at least six years of NFL experience. Whereas pure backups and fringe talents such as Bruce...
Will Manning become a 2012 offseason version of Drew Brees, the former San Diego Chargers quarterback with the career-threatening shoulder injury whom the New Orleans Saints gambled on in March 2006? Four seasons later, Brees rewarded general manager...
Drew Brees. Assuming that New Orleans doesn’t place the exclusive franchise tender on Brees, there is simply no harm in Tampa Bay making a major play to get the record-setting quarterback. At 33 years old, Brees still has four or five great years left...
California. Quarterback: Drew Brees, second-round pick (32nd overall) by San Diego in 2001 Head coach: Sean Payton, fourth season with New Orleans. Appeared in three games as quarterback with Chicago in 1987. In context: New Orleans went 3-13 just four...
With that being said, I still believe that Brees will re-sign a new contract and retire as a Saint. Brees has even said that there's no doubt he'll retire as a Saint on the NFL Network. The reason the Saints are so good is because of Sean Payton and...
A coach who already has enough moxie to try something like, say, an onside kick to start the second half of his life's biggest game. You guessed it, I'm talking about Sean Payton. Which is why I don't think it's a coincidence that the one NFL coach...
Today is the day that I have settled your work-place debate with your buddies. What you are about to read is a labor of love and perhaps insanity. Read on if you are brave enough and love never-ending debates about football. The 11th annual Sturm NFL...
In my personal opinion, I believe that we will see the former take place. Romeus has all of the tools and talents to be a star in the NFL. Now he has the coaches to teach him how to do it. We are talking about a head coach, in Sean Payton, that has...
If you’re a Saints fan that statement has to leave you bummed out. The Saints became one-dimensional against the 49ers in their divisional round loss in San Francisco. If the Saints—under Pete Carmichael Jr. or Sean Payton—can remember to run the...
Besides, the Cowboys had their chance to go in another direction had they let Sean Payton take Tony Romo with him like he wanted to when he left to head coach the New Orleans Saints – side note: Its my opinion that Tony Romo would have already won a...

The most points the defense gave up was 27 in the Week 5 win against Carolina. Two of the wins were dramatic game-winning drives at the end of the football game. Yet the Saints' 5-1 record and overall dominance against Carolina and Atlanta are...
Chris Graythen - GETTY The Giants' Tom Coughlin and the Patriots' Bill Belichick are products of the Bill Parcells coaching tree. The best branches: 1 Bill Belichick: Hired as a defensive mastermind, his offenses have carried the Patriots under...
The arrival of coach Sean Payton and Drew Brees in 2006 has made the Saints one of the league’s top teams since, and they won the franchise’s first Super Bowl in the 2009 season. But the real cool thing is the recent success undoubtedly has helped...
After all, where would he go? New York Jets? Miami Dolphins? That's not going to happen. The Saints' high-powered offense is what elite quarterbacks dream about. Head coach Sean Payton has a great rapport with the former Purdue Boilermaker. With a...
Carl Banks, does not think there should even be a question of whether Parcells would be voted in today. “Why would there be any question about whether he gets into the Hall of Fame?’’ Banks told The Post. “Look around the league at the coaches who...
Coming off halftime ahead 10-6, quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts appeared ready to take control of the game. Head coach Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints came out ready to kick off the ball and it appeared as status quo until...
Their longevity together, in an era of non-stop player and coach turnover, is equally remarkable. After their 12 seasons, the league's next-longest active coach-quarterback pairing is the Giants' Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning— at eight seasons. Next is...
Former defensive coordinator, Greg Williams, left the Saints after 3 years with the team and joined the Saint Louis Rams’ coaching staff. Saints head coach Sean Payton wasted no time finding a replacement and hired Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnuolo was fired...

View Photo »It just meant those other guys were going to have to pickup the workload ... You saw Darren's snaps go way up. You saw Chris get more snaps. There are a number of things we think Pierre does well for us and you hate to lose a good player like that.
We tip our hat to San Francisco ... It was kind of an unbelievable game, the way it went back and forth. ... We credit San Francisco for making one more play than we did.
It is hard when you get that close then it slips away from you ... We had our opportunities and yet we credit San Francisco for making one more play than us to win a tough game.
Kind of an unbelievable game the way it went back and forth ... It's obviously a difficult game to lose.
They ended up making one more play than we did tonight ... I was proud of how we fought. I was proud of our guys despite some of the early adversary — the turnovers.
We're real encouraged by what we saw
We put a value on turnovers, but you've got to look at what causes turnovers
We came out sharp off the bye ... It wasn't perfect a lot of penalties. But I thought in all three aspects we did a real good job. It's important for us to get to eight (wins). We felt like this was going to be a tough opponent. Thought our players handled the (bye) schedule well.
I thought we ran it well tonight ... We ran it very well. Those are all things that are good allies for a quarterback. We had the balance we're looking for in November and December.
I've said this before about Drew ... He's his own worst critic, and he is as hard on himself as anyone else could possibly be. We're on year six now, and he's throwing the ball with great rhythm and anticipation.
We had the balance we're looking for in November and December ... I thought we ran it well. We ran it very well. Those are all things that are good allies for a quarterback, but he made some fantastic throws.
There's that confidence that players around him have, and obviously we have in him
Our guys came out sharp ... We felt like this was going to be tough opponent coming in with two losses they had prior to our game. ... We had the balance we were looking for. I thought we ran it well tonight.
There’s a confidence we have in that he understands the situation, and he understands the significance
We felt like this was going to be tough opponent coming in with two losses they had prior to our game ... I thought our players handled the schedule well. I was pleased with the win.
Drew understands the situation and when we are sending in the play in it's with the mindset we are going to be smart ... There is a confidence we have that he understands the situation, and he understands the significance.
He made some fantastic throws ... There's a confidence players have around him. He has thrown the ball with good rhythm and balance.
It was a big win for us ... Like any game it wasn't perfect. But I was pleased with the win.
I thought in all three aspects we did a real good job
This discussion we're having is a good one
Clearly that's something they'll look to correct as they come into our game just like we had done the same thing.
The approach we have to take is understanding what we're seeing from a scheme standpoint in the running game and understand that this is a team for good reason who believes strongly in that element to winning football games
Two big allies to the quarterback are good defense and the ability to run the football
They're run numbers aren't really what you might be accustomed to
Their run numbers aren't really what you might be accustomed to
