View Photo »I'm absolutely delighted for him. I played in his debut and I remember when he was a 14-year-old taking the mickey out of Viv Anderson, who was then England's right-back
Steve Bruce declared himself unwilling to reward Peter Crouch’s two goals with the man of the match award because the striker had turned down the chance to join Sunderland in the summer. It was a typical piece of Crouchian luck: you win the game and then a spurned manager gives all the credit to David B...
The good news for Sunderland fans is that Lee Cattermole is back in training
I'd say he is more like my Manchester United team-mate in the early Nineties, Andrei Kanchelskis
In my experience when you beat Arsenal the story is always about how badly they've played but I think our lads deserve some credit ... Apart from Marton's early save I can't really remember Arsenal having a chance. To beat Arsène's team you have to play well. This was not a lucky win.

To beat Arsenal you've always got to play well ... It's not one of them lucky ones. It wasn't the case that Arsenal missed chance after chance. They're so fluid in midfield, but defensively as a team we set out our gameplan. We've played well of late, and we've got our reward today for sticking at it.

John's a physical beast of a man, strong and powerful ... And whoever plays Ghana in the World Cup, there's 11 of them, all like him. A good team they are, and I hope England stay clear of them.

It looks as if it's going to be three months. We've not had much luck in that respect - that's two serious injuries [Gordon and Lee Cattermole] in a month.
We played well against West Ham and got nothing ... And Manchester United. We played well against Villa in the cup and got knocked out. Since the beach-ball incident, we’ve not had much luck.
I think we always it would go to penalties with the chances we missed and it wasn’t our night. We actually performed well against an excellent Aston Villa team but in the end I didn’t think we deserved to go through. Their goalkeeper will remember that performance for the rest of his career.
Nyron knows this club inside out and is a hugely popular member of the squad. He has impressed me since I came here in the summer. He has a great work ethic and typifies the physically strong presence that good teams need in the Premier League so I'm delighted he has committed his future to Sunderland.
Jordan is only 19 ... He’s got a fantastic future, the kid. He’s everything you could hope for in a midfield player and he will mature. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough and he’s definitely good enough to start for me. He’s just got to make sure he keeps his feet on the ground.
Lorik was a cult hero at Marseilles and I couldn’t believe they made him available
Yes I was a bit surprised Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize considering he is sending hundreds of troops to Afghanistan to go to war
Kenwyne will be getting the earlier flight back ... I told him that he can't play on Saturday if he doesn't. He will fly back through the night and get into London tomorrow morning, so he's still got to get back up to the north east from there. But the earlier flight gets him back over here 12 hours ear...
He’s been on the England scene for ten or twelve years and it seems like he’s been there for years.
I was impressed with Jordan as soon as I arrived at the club ... He’s a great young talent with a fantastic attitude and we’ve got high hopes for him.
David is staying here and so is Daryl, for the next two or three months at least ... What you saw on the bench last night - plus Marton Fulop, George McCartney and Lee Cattermole [who are out injured] - is what we've got. We've got a smaller squad now, but I'm hoping it will see us through the next 15 g...
The game was there for us to be won and I was delighted at half-time but it was disappointing that we petered away to nothing in the second half ... We were the best team by a distance - we let in a poor goal and bounced back from it. The second-half performance is something we have got to put right. We...
