He’s the closest thing to T.J. Ford coming into the Big 12 ... He’s a great point guard. He’s the type of player that will help Coach Anderson attract other talented players to that style of play.
In elementary, I was playing with middle school dudes ... In high school, playing with NBA dudes. I work out in Houston and play pickup games with guys like T.J. Ford, Daniel Gibson, Mike James, J.R. Smith. And then I started playing AAU with the (Houston) Hoops' 17-and-under team when I was 13.
I got to spend some time with T.J. Ford and Royal Ivey when they were on campus ... They told me how I should be a dominant player this year in college basketball. They also told me I need to start looking at myself as a professional guy.
When Avery was the age when you become a fan of a team, he was living in Texas and we were in the Final Four with T.J. Ford ... It just aligned that way.
