The Conservative party stands in every part of the United Kingdom. We're the only party that does. In a lot of elections we have shrunk back to rather an English base ... I'd like to see us establish a new political force in Northern Ireland that is both Conservative and Unionist, that can say to people, look, get beyond the old politics of constitution or orange or green.
Third parties in the US, and certainly in Massachusetts, exist to bring issues to the table ... That won't change in Massachusetts with the Green Party or Libertarian Party. These things are driven by national party identifications. Voters tend to think in those buckets.
This Canadian election is an example of how smaller third parties can influence the debate, with the Green Party’s carbon tax being adopted by the Liberal Party as Exhibit A ... For Canadians who believe in a carbon tax, which is essential in any battle against global warming, you have two choices this election to vote for something you believe in. OK. But what has that to do with Nader? There is a real chance for a progressive breakthrough on October 14, which would help comparative movements in the U.S.
