Wayne Rooney fought hard yesterday but his striker partner Berbatov looked disinterested at times and certainly wasn’t up for a physical battle with Liverpool centre-halves Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger.
I don’t consider I was ever in Ronaldo’s shadow but, no, I’m not happy he left the club and I don’t think any of us are. I’d prefer him to still be in the team if I’m being honest. He’s a brilliant player, irreplaceable, the best player in the world – so no one’s happy he left
It was a glimpse of a future few want to imagine. A future without the team’s talisman. When the World Cup comes around, England without Wayne Rooney doesn’t bear thinking about, so crucial is the striker in every way.
When we didn't qualify for Euro 2008, we (the United players) got a lot of stick (from Ronaldo)
For example, two of the great players, Wayne Rooney (of England) and Ronaldinho (of Brazil), both learned by playing street soccer
I was happy I didn’t get the stick Becks got and even Phil Neville did at Euro 2000 ... I didn’t really get any stick. Ronaldo took a lot of it and I’m pleased with that.
United are playing much better than before. When Ronaldo was on the pitch, everyone looked to him, expecting him to change the game when his team most needed it. But now United have a lot of players who can change a game, like Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov. Even the defenders can score go...
This is similar to my first year with England ... After those Euros I got used in different positions. It is not too different now but the manager is allowing us to go forward. If Steven is right up the pitch I can fill in for him and it is the same the other way round. It is good to have that rotation.
Coca-Cola Great Britain continues to invest in the game at all levels and is one of the game’s biggest supporters at both a domestic and international level. Current sponsorships include Wayne Rooney, Wembley Stadium, the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championships and supply deals with several Brit...
It's clear for everyone ... He scores goals. I've watched his first few games for Madrid and he seems to have improved again.
Nani has just left Wayne Rooney a hand-wringing, infuriated wreck by failing to spot his Manchester United colleague unmarked on the edge of the area after a lightning break left Stoke City light at the back. The finish wild and off target and Rooney's fury understandable. The England striker looks in t...
The role I'm playing for England is perfect, with me and Steven [Gerrard] changing positions
Wayne Rooney’s dug-out strop was caused by spitting Turkish fans and not because boss Sir Alex Ferguson substituted him… Now the truth behind the angry outburst is out it seems Rooney showed great restraint by only throwing down his boot. But no official complaint has been made to UEFA.
Of course I was relieved I didn’t get the stick Becks got in 1998 and even Phil Neville did at Euro 2000 [for giving away a penalty in the 3-2 defeat by Romania]
There is something different about this England
The manager has stated he wants to win all 10 games and that is what we are aiming for ... He has made it clear to us these two matches are as important as all the other games we have played. They are the last competitive games we will play before the World Cup. After that there will be a friendly again...
There aren't too many games now before the World Cup and from a personal point of view to finish the qualification as the leading scorer in Europe would be something I would be very proud of.
It's no surprise ... He has scored two again [against Marseilles] and I am not surprised. He is rightfully called the best player in the world and I am sure he will continue to do well. We are playing different football now. Last season the team was based a lot around Cristiano and this year players are...
I feel we have had unfair criticism at the start of the season ... We weren't playing as well as we could but we have won every game since [the defeat on 19 August by] Burnley and yet this week we still get criticised. That's always going to happen at a club like this. We have bounced back well and are ...
I hope I'm still at United when I'm the same age as guys like Ryan, Scholesy and Gary Neville ... I've always said that as long as United want me, I'm happy to stay. I don't want to leave. I love the club and have no reason to even think about moving. I'm sure I'll be here for a long time.
