He's an amazing finisher ... When you look at England strikers, Wayne Rooney's fantastic - a complete all-round player - but as a finisher, Defoe is the best out there.
It was a difficult game for us. Brazil were the better team and deserved to win ... Brazil move the ball really well and make you chase it, which is really hard to do for 90 minutes. We should have put more pressure on the first ball (for the goal). I'm not sure how he (Nilmar) has got in between the de...
But you only have to look at the strikers, other than Wayne Rooney, that Capello has selected recently to highlight the problems facing the England manager.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea will be involved in an unprecedented scramble to sign 16-year-old striker Connor Wickham from Ipswich in January. Wickham, the youngest first-team player in Ipswich's history, is regarded in the game as the most exciting young Englishman to emerge since ...
Well, I certainly don't look Brazilian and I can't dance like them, either. But I certainly take it as a compliment even though there are players in the England team far more skilful than me. Especially Joe.
Wayne Rooney fought hard yesterday but his striker partner Berbatov looked disinterested at times and certainly wasn’t up for a physical battle with Liverpool centre-halves Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger.
When the manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] decides to rest me, it's his decision at the end of the day ... There will be games, I'm sure, this season at home, when I'll have the chance to be rested. That's down to the manager. I want to play. But if he rests me, he rests me. There's nothing you can do.
It was a glimpse of a future few want to imagine. A future without the team’s talisman. When the World Cup comes around, England without Wayne Rooney doesn’t bear thinking about, so crucial is the striker in every way.
I'm playing for one of the biggest teams in the world ... playing against Brazil for my country. And becoming a father. Things couldn't feel much better. I'm really proud.
For example, two of the great players, Wayne Rooney (of England) and Ronaldinho (of Brazil), both learned by playing street soccer
United won most of the trophies in the 1990s and for me, as an Everton fan, it was a chance to have a go back at the Liverpool fans
United are playing much better than before. When Ronaldo was on the pitch, everyone looked to him, expecting him to change the game when his team most needed it. But now United have a lot of players who can change a game, like Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov. Even the defenders can score go...
I don’t consider I was ever in Ronaldo’s shadow but, no, I’m not happy he left the club and I don’t think any of us are. I’d prefer him to still be in the team if I’m being honest. He’s a brilliant player, irreplaceable, the best player in the world – so no one’s happy he left
Coca-Cola Great Britain continues to invest in the game at all levels and is one of the game’s biggest supporters at both a domestic and international level. Current sponsorships include Wayne Rooney, Wembley Stadium, the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championships and supply deals with several Brit...
When we didn't qualify for Euro 2008, we (the United players) got a lot of stick (from Ronaldo)
Nani has just left Wayne Rooney a hand-wringing, infuriated wreck by failing to spot his Manchester United colleague unmarked on the edge of the area after a lightning break left Stoke City light at the back. The finish wild and off target and Rooney's fury understandable. The England striker looks in t...
I was happy I didn’t get the stick Becks got and even Phil Neville did at Euro 2000 ... I didn’t really get any stick. Ronaldo took a lot of it and I’m pleased with that.
Wayne Rooney’s dug-out strop was caused by spitting Turkish fans and not because boss Sir Alex Ferguson substituted him… Now the truth behind the angry outburst is out it seems Rooney showed great restraint by only throwing down his boot. But no official complaint has been made to UEFA.
This is similar to my first year with England ... After those Euros I got used in different positions. It is not too different now but the manager is allowing us to go forward. If Steven is right up the pitch I can fill in for him and it is the same the other way round. It is good to have that rotation.
It's clear for everyone ... He scores goals. I've watched his first few games for Madrid and he seems to have improved again.
The role I'm playing for England is perfect, with me and Steven [Gerrard] changing positions
Of course I was relieved I didn’t get the stick Becks got in 1998 and even Phil Neville did at Euro 2000 [for giving away a penalty in the 3-2 defeat by Romania]
There is something different about this England
