The state archives are property of New Yorkers and they document the history of our great state ... The stealing of these documents is akin to stealing from taxpayers and it is reprehensible that a state employee would abuse his position in order to do so. 
I was interested in bidding on the letter, but as I read the letter and the transcription the seller provided, I was surprised by the political content of the letter
This crime is particularly repugnant because it's dealing with historic documents, which is literally stealing the history of New York, page by page
