In this Dec. 13, 2007 file photo, former major league baseball player Jose Canseco exits the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York. Canseco's former attorney says he has sued the retired slugger for not making payments. Attorney Robert Saunooke said Tuesday, June 10, 2008 Canseco didn't pay him for five years of work.

For Jose, it's a day by day thing. He wakes up trying to figure out what kind of job he can find
He said, 'Ok, just keep a running tally.' So I did. I kept working for him, hoping with the promise there would be payments later. Of course the book deal comes out, the one that I negotiated for him. That deal comes together and I say, 'Can you pay me now?' And he fires me. That's when I said, 'Enough's enough.'
On a money judgment, if (Canseco or his attorney) donât file an answer within a certain period of time, theyâre in default and they donât get to raise any defense ... I will now go to a judge (next Thursday) and ask the judge to decide what amount, if any, to pay. Iâll submit the same bills. Iâll follow the law in Florida and elsewhere and try to attach any assets (Canseco) has to satisfy the judgment.
